Secret Lair x Felix the Cat: Magic Bag of Tricks Foil Edition Review

Magic: The Gathering has a long history of surprising crossovers, but the Secret Lair series keeps raising the bar. The latest drop brings the iconic cartoon cat Felix the Cat into the Multiverse with the Magic Bag of Tricks Foil Edition. As a longtime collector and player, I was eager to see how this whimsical set holds up both on the table and in the binder.

In this review, I'll break down the packaging, card art, foil quality, gameplay usability, and overall value. Whether you're a die-hard Felix fan or a competitive player looking for unique bling, this drop has something to offer. Let's open the bag and see what tricks are inside.

Unboxing the Magic Bag of Tricks Foil Edition

The first thing you notice is the packaging. Secret Lair drops are known for their distinctive boxes, and this one is no exception. The Felix the Cat theme is front and center, with vibrant colors and a playful design that immediately brings a smile. Inside, you'll find five foil cards, each showcasing a different piece of art that pays homage to the classic cartoons.

The foil treatment is applied generously but tastefully. The cards have a subtle shimmer that makes the colors pop without obscuring the artwork. The card stock feels premium, and the foiling is consistent across all cards—no warping or dull spots. For collectors who care about card condition, this is a big plus.

• Five foil cards with unique Felix the Cat artwork
• Premium card stock with consistent foiling
• Collectible packaging that's worth keeping

Art and Design: A Love Letter to Classic Animation

The artwork on these cards is where the set truly shines. Each card features Felix in various poses, often interacting with other characters or using his magic bag. The style is faithful to the original cartoons, with bold lines and expressive features that capture Felix's mischievous personality. The backgrounds are detailed and colorful, making each card a small piece of art.

One standout is the depiction of Felix pulling a giant hammer out of his bag—a nod to the classic gag. The artist clearly had fun with the theme, and it shows. For fans of the cartoon, this is a nostalgic trip down memory lane. For MTG players, it's a refreshing change from the typical fantasy art.

Gameplay Value: Are These Cards Playable?

While the primary appeal is collectibility, it's worth examining the gameplay potential. The cards in this drop are reprints of existing MTG cards, with new art and names that fit the Felix theme. For example, one card is a reprint of a popular artifact that can be a fun addition to commander decks. The mechanics are unchanged, so you're getting functional cards with a fresh coat of paint.

That said, these aren't tournament staples. Their value lies more in their uniqueness and the joy they bring to casual games. If you play Commander with friends, these cards will definitely be conversation starters. And if you're a collector, they're a must-have for any cartoon-themed collection.

• Reprints of existing cards with new art and names
• Great for casual and Commander play
• Not competitive staples, but full of charm

Comparing to Other Secret Lair Drops

Secret Lair has released many crossover sets, from streetwear to video games. The Felix the Cat drop stands out for its pure nostalgia. Compared to other recent drops like Secret Lair x Garfield or Secret Lair x The Hobbit, this one leans heavily into classic animation. The Garfield sets, such as the Secret Lair x Garfield: Our Only Thought is to Entertain You Foil Edition, offer a similar dose of humor, while the Hobbit sets bring epic fantasy. Felix offers a lighter, more playful vibe that's perfect for fans of vintage cartoons.

If you're a completionist, you'll also want to check out the non-foil version of the Magic Bag of Tricks, which is also available. The foil edition, however, adds that extra layer of shine that makes it a standout in any collection.

Where to Buy and Final Thoughts

The Secret Lair x Felix the Cat: Magic Bag of Tricks Foil Edition is available directly from the official Secret Lair store. Given the popularity of Secret Lair drops, these tend to sell out quickly, so if you're interested, it's worth acting fast. The price point is typical for Secret Lair products, offering good value for the unique artwork and collectibility.

In summary, this drop is a delightful addition to any MTG collection. It captures the spirit of Felix the Cat while providing functional cards for gameplay. Whether you're a longtime fan of the cartoon or just appreciate great art, this is a worthy purchase.

The Secret Lair x Felix the Cat: Magic Bag of Tricks Foil Edition is a charming, well-crafted product that celebrates one of animation's most beloved characters.
