Secret Lair x Garfield As Intended Foil Edition Review: The Definitive Version

Magic: The Gathering fans have seen their fair share of crossovers, but few have been as delightfully unexpected as the Secret Lair x Garfield series. The lasagna-loving, Monday-hating cat has taken the MTG world by storm, and the latest drop—the As Intended Foil Edition—promises to be the definitive version for collectors. In this review, we'll dive deep into what makes this foil edition stand out, from its alternate art to its premium finish.

Whether you're a die-hard Garfield fan, a Magic collector looking for unique pieces, or someone who just appreciates whimsical card design, this review will help you decide if the Secret Lair x Garfield As Intended Foil Edition deserves a spot in your collection. We'll also compare it to other Secret Lair drops, including the popular Secret Lair x Garfield: Our Only Thought is to Entertain You Foil Edition, so you know exactly what you're getting.

What is the As Intended Foil Edition?

The As Intended Foil Edition is part of the Secret Lair x Garfield series, which reimagines classic MTG cards with Garfield-themed art and flavor. The 'As Intended' subtitle hints at the creative vision behind the drop—these cards are designed to capture the essence of Garfield in a way that feels both playful and true to the source material. The foil treatment adds a layer of shine that makes the artwork pop, turning each card into a miniature piece of art.

This edition is particularly notable for its alternate art, which differs from the non-foil versions. The foil finish enhances the vibrant colors, making the already expressive Garfield art even more striking. For collectors, this means a visually distinct version that stands out in any binder or display.

• Alternate art exclusive to the foil edition
• Premium foil finish that enhances the artwork
• Includes iconic Garfield expressions and references

Foil Quality and Cardstock

One of the most important aspects of any foil card is the quality of the foil itself. The As Intended Foil Edition uses a high-quality foil process that avoids the common issues of warping or dullness. The cards come out of the pack with a brilliant shine that catches the light beautifully, and the colors remain true to the original art without being overly dark or reflective.

The cardstock feels sturdy and premium, consistent with other Secret Lair drops. Shuffling these cards is a pleasure, and they hold up well to repeated use. If you're planning to play with these cards rather than just display them, you'll be pleased with the durability.

• High-quality foil that resists warping
• Premium cardstock for durability
• Vibrant colors that stay true to the art

Comparing to Other Secret Lair x Garfield Drops

The Secret Lair x Garfield series has produced several memorable drops, including the Secret Lair x Garfield: Our Only Thought is to Entertain You Foil Edition and the Secret Lair x Garfield: Motivationally Challenged Foil Edition. Each drop brings its own unique flavor, but the As Intended Foil Edition sets itself apart with its focus on the 'as intended' concept—cards that feel like they were always meant to feature Garfield.

Compared to the Our Only Thought is to Entertain You Foil Edition, the As Intended Foil Edition offers a different selection of cards and a distinct artistic approach. While both are excellent, the As Intended edition feels more cohesive in its theme, making it a strong addition for collectors who want a complete Garfield collection.

• Distinct card selection from other Garfield drops
• Cohesive theme that ties the cards together
• Ideal for collectors aiming for a complete set

Value for Collectors

When it comes to collectibility, the As Intended Foil Edition is a strong investment. Foil editions of Secret Lair drops tend to hold their value well, especially when they feature popular characters like Garfield. The alternate art and premium finish make these cards desirable for both players and collectors.

If you're looking to expand your collection with unique, high-quality cards, this drop is a must-have. It also pairs well with other Secret Lair products, such as the Secret Lair x The Hobbit: Over the Edge of the Wild Foil Edition, for a diverse and impressive display.

• Foil editions typically retain value over time
• Popular character art increases demand
• Great for both play and display

In summary, the Secret Lair x Garfield As Intended Foil Edition is a standout release that delivers on all fronts: stunning alternate art, excellent foil quality, and a cohesive theme that fans will love.
