The Rise of Cat-Themed MTG Cards: From Garfield to Felix

Magic: The Gathering has always had a soft spot for creatures, but few have captured the community's imagination quite like cats. From the iconic Leonin to the ever-popular Cat creature type, felines have been a staple in the game for decades. However, the recent surge of cat-themed MTG cards, especially through Secret Lair drops, has turned this niche interest into a full-blown trend. In this article, we'll explore how cat-themed cards have evolved, why they're so beloved, and what the future holds for these whiskered warriors.

The trend reached new heights with the release of Secret Lair x Garfield and Secret Lair x Felix the Cat, two drops that brought beloved cartoon cats into the world of MTG. These crossover events not only celebrate the game's playful side but also offer collectors unique, high-quality cards that are both functional and nostalgic. Whether you're a long-time player or a collector just starting out, cat-themed MTG cards are proving to be a purr-fect addition to any collection.

The Evolution of Cat Cards in Magic: The Gathering

Cats have been part of Magic's history since the early sets, with cards like White Lion and Savannah Lions appearing in Alpha. Over the years, the Cat creature type has grown into a full-fledged tribe, with support from sets like Amonkhet and Core Set 2020. The introduction of Arahbo, Roar of the World in Commander 2017 further cemented cats as a viable and fun archetype. This long-standing presence has built a dedicated fan base that eagerly awaits each new feline addition.

The popularity of cat cards isn't just about gameplay; it's also about identity. Many players are cat owners themselves, and the inclusion of these cards allows them to express their love for their pets in-game. The community's enthusiasm has not gone unnoticed by Wizards of the Coast, who have increasingly featured cats in promotional art and special releases. This symbiotic relationship between player interest and product design has set the stage for the recent crossover drops.

• Cat creature type has been present since Alpha.
• Commander 2017 introduced Arahbo, boosting cat tribal decks.
• Community love for cats drives demand for new cards.
